• Activity data: events you host, join, or express interest in
• Messages: communications sent through the in-app chat
• Usage data: pages visited, features used, and general interaction patterns
• Device and technical data: browser type, IP address, and similar information

2. How we use it

We use your information to:

• Operate and improve the Service
• Match you with relevant activities and people
• Send transactional emails (confirmations, activity updates)
• Ensure safety and prevent fraud
• Comply with legal obligations

3. What we do not do

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not display third-party advertising inside the app. We do not use your data to build profiles for purposes unrelated to running Compass.

4. Data sharing

We share data only with service providers necessary to operate the platform (authentication, database hosting, email delivery, video hosting, and analytics). These providers are contractually required to handle data securely and only as instructed. We will share data with law enforcement when legally required to do so.

5. Public profile information

Your display name, profile photo, and hosted activities are visible to other Compass users. Messages you send in activity chats are visible to activity members. Think before sharing sensitive personal information in public profile fields.

6. Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@compass-app.co. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We may also use analytics cookies to understand how people use the app. You can block cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work correctly without them.

9. Security

We use industry-standard practices to protect your data including encrypted connections (TLS) and authenticated database access. No system is perfectly secure; if you discover a vulnerability, please report it to security@compass-app.co.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. We will notify you of material changes by email or via a notice in the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
